Our Purpose

  • Our purpose is to raise funds to support and expand the animal care services at the Iowa City Animal Center. We seek health, comfort, freedom from fear, and a loving guardian for our companion animals.

Founded in February of 1999 by three very determined animal lovers, Friends of the Animal Center Foundation (FACF) has been helping animals at the Iowa City Animal Center. Over the years FACF has been focused on raising funds and training volunteers to support existing, expanded and new programs for the homeless animals in our community.

FACF founders recognized that the City of Iowa City's budget for the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center was not enough to give homeless, abused and neglected animals a second chance. In response, they started a grassroots organization to supplement the budget at the Animal Center. Starting with just $500 in the bank, FACF has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. In 2013 FACF pledged $1 million towards the construction of the new Iowa City Animal Center facility. The Grand Opening of the new Animal Center was September 2015. In July 2016 FACF paid off the $1 million pledge (a year early).

As FACF gains recognition in the community we increase fundraising, expand programs, and help more animals each day. Please visit our website to learn more about our programs www.facf.org.

FACF has been organized exclusively for charitable, literary, educational or scientific purposes to qualify for tax exempt status under the Internal Revenue Laws and Regulations of the United States. Tax Identification Number: 42-1484935.
